Getting a spare key

Getting a spare key
So apparently you can't just go to home depot and get a spare bike key like you can with cars. They are apparently too long and the machine cant cut them. I went to the bike shop to see if they could do it and they said I need the "key code." It is a unique code specific to my bike and their machine cannot cut a new key without it. They suggested that I go to the dealership and see what they can do.
How have you guys gone about getting a spare key made? I'd like one in case I lose mine.
Thanks

I got lucky at true value and found one for my 1000F.
Looks like the Ilco key code for your F4 is HD109. You may be able to find it somewhere locally, but there are also lots of different blanks on ebay.

ETA: I just checked my Ilco spare & it is indeed an X265 HD109. I also have factory Honda OEM spares - you can order them from your local Honda dealer - Part # 35121-MAS-G01.
