should i start out with a cbr 600?
A CBR600RR is a great first bike or a great bike for any skill level.
Don't believe the squids that it is inevitable that you and the bike are going to crash. The guys that tell you take are defeated before they ride. You should always know that you are going to push yourself within your own ability and have the rubber side down!
It frosts me some of the squids and there attitudes! Bunch of girly boys.

I agree with Duc, it's a great first bike, and I'm sure that it's an even better ride for an experienced rider. I've been on my 07 for six months and have 3200 miles, it's not a lot by any stretch of the imagination, but it's better than drooling over Cycle World in Wal Mart. You may be fine and you may not be. It all depends on how well you can contain the inner beast, and he will tell you to give that right hand a twist and ring her out. If you're lucky you'll just end up with a huge ticket (see my previous posts), or on the other side of the spectrum you could crack your melon open and the paramedics could be scooping your grey matter up with a soup ladel and your skin up with a spatula. When, not if but when, you give in to the inner beast hopefully all you'll get is a huge ticket and calm your a$$ down, it did me. Either way, do what you feel and respect the bike above all else. If you respect it, hopefully the good Lord will help you to keep the shiny side up. Good luck with your weighty decision and be safe.
Well myself I feel the 600rr might be a bit much for a new rider..... I had purchased an 06 200rr this summer and wrote it off within the first month of having but mostly to my own stupidy of stunting so soon. But if you do respect the bike and your skills, just take it easy and it should go great. Ive already bought another 06.... I just love the CBR to much do switch it up
With whatever decision you go with be it a F2, 3, 4 ..or older 600rr ... remember this ..Ride with-in your limits and Respect the Bike. Keep the faster riding on the track. Good Luck with your decision and have fun!!

That post oozes with irresponsibility. Just because you are skilled or lucky, does not mean everyone is as fortunate as you.
This is NOT a bike for a noob. The insurance data backs up on this. The premiums are high, because the insurance companies pay out on these.
This bike is a total blast to ride. However, don't be decieved by the "small" displacement. It packs a lot of rewarding horsepower.
Go learn on something smaller. Drop something smaller. Learn to ride, and then get this machine. It will reward you for it.
Climbing on to this one first time out will get you hurt. It gets a lot of people hurt. You don't have to believe me, just take a look at the facts.
The responses to these questions seem to fall into two groups. The riders with a short amount of street time under their belts who think it is a good idea to start on a bike like this, and the group of riders with a lot of experience who know better. I really hope the first group lasts long enough to make it into the second.
Get what you want!! Also get full coverage and gap insurance just incase. You can hit a corner to fast on a ninja 250 the same as an RR. If you don't respect the bike it will bite you!!!
Again, if you have the attitude that one day you are going to crash, don't ever get on a bike. The responsible attitude is to ride within your abilities at all times and avoid a crash at all of the time! By thinking one is going to crash makes riders take chances that should never be taken. Don't be a squid be a rider!
Hmmm, Let's see how much I can confuse you... ask yourself these questions.
[ul][*]How high is your pain tolerance?,[*]How much do you love you friends and family? They may bevisiting you in the hospital, or planning a funeral![*]Do you consider yourself a mature, responsible individual?[*]What kind of riders will you be riding with?[/ul]
Yes, it's true that a SS600 does have a lot of power, but the other side of this is they also have far superior braking, and handling. Meaning yes they can you into trouble faster, but also get you out of trouble faster. Is it you that you'll be blaming for getting into trouble?
I agree with bux, an early CBR600 like theF4i is probably your best bet.Ultimately it is more up to you,and your personality on which you should buy?
You have to turst yourself on a 600, if that is what infact you want. Because respect it or you will get seriously hurt....either by the removal of the horseshoe that you've been carrying in your A#%, or by imitating a pretzle around a lamp pole.
No matter what decision you make; have fun, respect the bike, watch out for any and everything.... and WELCOME
