Default should i start out with a cbr 600?

Hi i am a newbie and i just want to ask you experienced riders if i should ride a cbr 600. I am about 5'5 and weight 150. I love cbr 600, but many people told me to get a slower bike because i am a new rider and they said that i should get a yamaha r6 or something like that because it is lower. they said cbr tends to be higher than r6... i just want to know wat are your recomemdations.

thank you,

AJ

I'm a new rider, I've been raised around dirt bikes and stuff but I've really got into street riding with my boyfriend. I just bought a cbr 600 2 weeks ago I absolutely love it. The 2007 is a good starter bike because it is very light, the 2008 will be slightly heavier so the 07 will be a good choice. The only modification I had to make is to lower the bike because I felt unconfident being on my tip-toes. I'm 5'6, and I purchased a lowering link for the bike and lowered it last weekend. I feel so much better now and confident. I would advise you to lower it since you are 5'5 and I would deffinitely reccomend that you get thisbike. I love mine!!

I think he was asking experienced riders. Alot of people think because its a "600" its a good starter bike. 600's of today are not like 600s of a few years ago. Todays 600s boast 100+ HP and if you take them lightly they will put you in the dirt. If you've never ridin, I wouldn't recommend starting out on a newer 600 of any flavor, but thats just me. If you insist on a 600 get an F2 or maybe a F3 in case you dump it or maybe ridings not for you and you're not out too much doe. And just because they are lighter doesn't make it a good starter bike, a lighter 600 means a faster 600.

Yeah, no kidding. [:'(]

People... search 600rr beginner on this forum. You'll get all the answers from the people who actually have years of experience under their belt. Starting on an RR is not recommended. Start smaller and work your way up. Yeah, it's not as cool doing what's right but it pays off in the end when you put down an older bike instead of that bright, shiny new super sport.

go check the crash section of 600rr.net. it is full of 07s that are crashing left and right usually during the first few months. and almost all of them are new riders.

the 07 is not, i repeat once again, is not a beginner bike. it is the lightest most powerful 600 ever.
it was designed for racing.

if you want to start on a 600 go with an older one.
the f4i is a good beginner bike if you want to stick with honda. it is very forgiving and stable
or the kawasaki zzr600.

but i am selling the street plastics off of my 07 600rr so when you go get one anyway get the black one so i will have a buyer.

ps
the 07 and 08 are exactly the same weight
410 lbs

honda webpage shows wet weight for 08 and dry weight for 07
however i weighed my 07 the day i got it and completeley wet it was exactly 410

i advise to leave it alone. lowering links mess with the bikes geometry and handling. you need an expert suspenion tuner to put the bike back into the proper setup or it will mess with how it handles.

besides i am 5'7" and i can flatfoot my 07 with my legs bent

I got one against the advice of some. I like it, but its definatly not a beginner bike by any means and starting smaller would probably have been wiser. No incedents yet (knocks on wood) but that doest mean anything.

I told my self i would baby it at first, but its like handing an alcoholic a drink, they are going to drink it.

an r6 isnt going to be much better. its still a race bike.

as far as lowering it, if you dont feel like you can handle the bike as is then perhaps you shouldnt ride it. you must be nothing but legs baxsom because i am tip toeing unless i just lean over to one leg.

In the end its your choice, just dont kill your self.
