Transamlt1man,
I have the 2bros' on my 1KRR and I removed the heat shield. I haven't had any problems whatsoever. I have 4k+ miles on my CBR since removing the heat shield. I didn't add any of the heat shielding tapes or any special paint, just removed the old shield and rode.
Hope this helps.

Have a 07' put a Leo Vince SBK/carbon slip on. Took both heat shields off, looks great for cosmetic purposes, have had no problems! Granted nobody ever rides on the back but their is about a 3/4 inch clearence from theslip-on to the rear seat so it has plenty of ventilation. as for themid pipe...haven't burned myself, could put some heat wrap around it if you ever encounter that kind of problem later.

what i did was get some metal tape and stick it to the battery box right where the muffler sits and you will never have a problem, the tape is the same that honda uses for the side of the battery box, dont know why they dont just put it all over the underneath
