I have the same problem on my 04 RR and my buddy has the same problem on his 04 RR. We actually had the damn things reset radomly one day while riding (approx 600-700 miles on trip). Trust me, we tried to reset with the bikes on and running and it would not reset. My buddy's clock is off too and he can't reset it. I will try that pull off the rubbers thing and then try the disassembly when I change oil and plugs.

Mine was doing this to. Or more the point it wasn't doing it. I took off the dash and unscrewed the back. It's only about 6 screws. I found the white button ratteling around in there. Then with a very little bit of super glue, stuck it back on. Works fine now. Just make sure if you glue it back in you leave the dash open for a few days. so the fumes from the glue don't make the dash go milky.

somebody didn't read the old posts! i used JB Kwik 2-part epoxy. there's an upper and a lower part of the button that are supposed to snap together but come loose, and the middle part that holds the lower down. remove all 3 pieces, and assemble them outside the gauge cluster. when you glue the upper to the lower, make sure the middle can move free when you're done. the white upper/lower will then slide freely thru the black middle a good mm or 2. if you get glue between them, the buttons will work poorly, if at all. jb kwik is good to use because it's flexible and durable, while super glue is kinda brittle. when the buttons are reassembled, just snap them back on their mount things. also be careful you don't lose the tiny little copper dome things in the bottom of the button housing - without those, the button won't work at all.
