Smokin Joes makes a Strange sound , Anybody ?
Hey I just picked up a cbr f3 Smokin joes , Really cheap , so it has some scuffs and dings but nothing major
It however does make a strange noise , different from my f4
the sound increases when my speed increases but not my rpms , sometimes i cant hear it at low rpms either (yosh pipe , cant really hear anything but )
so the sound is like the squeek of a matress , eeeh eeeeh eeeh eeeh eeeh faster or slower depending on the speed , but when i close the throttle and just roll the sound can be heard and as my speed decreases the noise slows also , not quieter just slower eeeeh eeeeeh eeeeeh , the last owner said he had the front wheel bearing done ,
I guess im wondering what you experts think this strange sound is from

Either, wheel bearings or sticking caliper, would be my guess.
Try putting the bike up on stand(s) and rotate front/rear wheels,
listening/feeling for drag on the brake rotors.
While it's up double check for tire sidewalls rubbing (although, that's a reach).
Also, try applying the brakes at speed. Does the sound go away? If it does,
most likely brakes, if not wheel bearings go to the front of the list.
I would NOT do any fast/long riding until you do determine the cause.
Catastophic failure of a wheel bearing is a "very bad thing". Potentially leading
to a crash and serious injury.
Good luck, hope this helps, Ern

Well i was told the front wheel bearing was just done , so it might be the brakes
I have been riding the hell out of it , a 200km drive back to town then another 120km around town , mostly at 180-250kmph
should I stop that perhaps ?

Being told and actually being done are two different things.
Without knowing what the issue is, you could (best case scenerio) get stranded.
If it's a bearing and seizes completely could be replacing a lot of hardware and/or skin.
I would err on the side of caution, hence my advice.

Check the metal clips that the brake pad rides in. they can get bent and drag on the rotor a little. I had this same problem with another members bike. I took the rear brake pads out, rebent the clip, put the pads back in. all fixed in 5 min!
last time I did my rear brake pads on my f4 i fudged the caliper and had to take it to the shop , im usualyy atleast intermediate with these things but i really had no guidence , and pages i could link to or any good step by step for checking that or just for taking off the front brake pads ?
Thanks for the advice so far
