Exclamation Bike makes rattle sound at startup

Hey guys. Just about everytime I start my bike for the first time, it makes a nasty rattle sound. It only does it for a minute or two and then doesn't do it for the rest of the day. Anyone have an idea what could be the cause of this. The Honda dealership said it could be the cam tensioner, but they wouldn't know until they put a new one on there which would cost $170. I'd hate to replace it and that not fix the issue. Has anyone here heard or experienced the same thing? Thanks for your help

Have you checked the oil? Whens the last time you changed the oil?
If its the CCT, then it would be far more noticable on decelleration, and it wouldnt really matter if the bike is warm or cold, mine does it all the time. Maybe yours is starting to go bad, I duuno. Anyways you can get an aftermarket manual tensioner for less than 50 bucks on eBay. It's not that hard to DIY, read a write up in the how to section. Might not fix your problem, but you'll only be out 50 stead of a 170.lol.

Thanks for the response. I've changed the oil two times since it started making the weird noise. I took it up to Honda last night so they could start it up this morning to try and diagnose the problem. They took it out first thing today, and the tech said he was almost 100% sure that it was the cct. He said the noise combined with the mileage (34k) would make him completely surprised if it was not the cam chain tensioner. He said that the older 600's are known for wearing that part out once they get up in the higher mileage. I'm having it replaced when the part comes in next week, so I'll let you now if this fixes the issue. I'll def be bummed if I dropped the 170 bucks and the noise is still there. Unfortunately, I don't know of a motorcyle place around Cincy that I can completely trust. Oh well, we'll see what winds up happening.

Just replace it yourself. It should only take a couple hours to do. Personally, I'd be bummed for paying someone 170 bucks to do a SIMPLE job like the CCT.

The sound stays the same no matter the rpm and the clutch did not make a difference when it was pulled in or let out. If I give it throttle it makes no difference. The sound eventually goes away and it happens all of a sudden. It does not reduce in noise it just stops. Kinda weird if you ask me. I went ahead and told Honda it was cool to replace the part (After tax 186.50,). The part comes in Tuesday, so hopefully it will be installed by the end of the week and I will update y'all.

I'd replace it myself, but I'm just used to doin simple fluid and brake changes. One of my friends changed his and he said it's a pain in the butt.

I just wanted to udate you guys on the problem I was having with my bike. The problem wound up being the cam chain tensioner. I had it replaced and the noise has gone away completely. Thanks to all who responded to my question.

So did you DIY or did you pay that OUTRAGEOUS stealership fee of $170 for a $50 part?
