The whole thing is plug and play... what could you possibly screw up (besides pugging the PC into the overhead injectors)???

if you totally unplug your power commander from your bike, will you loose your map? i did and my bike seems slower... plus the digital bars don't go to the top when i give it full throttle. That normal?

By installing a Power Commander what do you gain? Is there a HP gain or does the Power Commander give a choice in the power curve?

Given enough mods......you will likely gain peak HP, but if the bike is relatively stock or even completely stock, you WILL gain drivability and better throttle response. Probably no need for a custom tune if you are stock or with a slip on, but again...it'll make it drive much better. I've heard of and seen the dyno sheets that putting it on a stock bike and tuning it will gain you as much as 10hp through the mid range where you actually USE the power more and that particular R6 gained 4hp on top. Not a lot, but the 10hp across the middle would certainly make a difference. I put it on my GSX-R when it was stock and threw in a couple of maps and found one that worked good. Much better in the mid range as well.

Either way.........you will not lose a map if you unplug it and it's not a permenant change. YOu can throw the 000 map in and it will bypass the PC III and run the stock map.
