i will take off an run it slow so as not to annoy the neighbors
that's pretty much what I do, I barely touch the throttle, just enough to get it going down the street. I don't touch the throttle at all when I start it up, just push the button. Gotta love Fuel Injection Even when it's warm out or later in the day I don't get on the gas until the bike warms up a little [sm=burnout.gif].

hmm... yeah... i'm with tahoe... this is not normal. i've ridden in the teens up here in IL and when i start it up i've never had that problem. you probably don't need to rev it while it's warming up. in fact, when it's COLD out i don't touch the throttle till it hits 100 degrees on my temp guage.
+1...don't need to rev it...try just letting it be once starting and see if corrects problem...if not let us know

Yeah, just hit the starter and let it sit until it hits like 140ish degrees. I wheel mine out on the driveway, fire it up and let it sit until at least 140-150 degrees while I get my gear on. When the bike's cold, so is the oil. You want that oil up to temp also or else it's not going to flow where it needs to be while you're giving it revs while cold.
