I set one down with the bars slightly turned and although it righted itself right away I could see that technique developing into a bad tank slapper.
I did the same thing about a week ago. I've had my bike since december and have gotten comfortable enough with it now to start playing with wheelies. I have to say it does take some getting used to and feeling for the bike. I have a nice rythm for pooping up power wheelies in first now, however I also STRESS that you keep the front wheel straight on the way down. I pulled one up pretty high, and at the time it was the highest one I had done, so naturally it freaked me out a lil. I closed the throttle a little to quick and came down pretty hard ona cocked front wheel... almost turned into an ugly tank slapper.

I have a scotts dampner, Ive dropped a wheelie doing 90+ on i95 here cause of those city ******* in the road and the handlebars were cocked to the left and it came down with a BAM/SMOKE/wiggle. and pulled right out smoothly cause of the speed dampning system of the scotts. Scotts is the only way to go! Fugg GPR. scotts wont ride w/out it.

Glad ot hear the progress xsx304!!

I forgot to add, #1 into that.. START SMALL LOL.

I heard that the stock dampners on the 600RR were just fine and not to mess with them, or have I been misinformed ? Should I definately look into different dampners? What are the pros/cons ?

The Scotts dampner I believe OneWheelin is talking about is a center mount steering dampner that comes stock on the 1000RR. The 600RR does not come with one from the factory. I think you might be talking about fork dampners. If so as far as adjustments go I'm not sure it's a factor when setting the front wheel down with it turned. They do sell the Scotts steering dampner for the 600RR. So far I see no need for one.

MY Scotts dampner rules I love it :-) My First gears are coming around really well I can sit around the balance point and carry them for awhile but for the life of me I can't figure out second gears I can get it to come up a bit but not very high, I haven't really tried stand ups or clutching they sort of make me nervous I like sitting down and powering it or bouncing it up I can wheelie my 600rr at about 7 grand just lean back let off the throttle and snap the gas comes right up :-) but yeah any advice on powering up second gears would be nice :-)

anyone ride -1 +2 I have my sprockets on order just waiting for them to come in I hope it makes second gears easier

clutch it. i have always rode wheelies with clutches except on 50s because they have no clutch. the first one I did on the RR was an accident and i was coming out of a right and turn so i was wheelieing on a light right lean and hadn't finished the turn but throttling on straightened me out. First good scare I had too. I ride through 1st to like 45-50, then shift roll on a lil, blip the throttle and pop the clutch and it rises slow and steady, didn't notice any side lean or strange pull, smoothe as hell. cant wait for some pants and extended sliders so I dont do anything too bad. I like to ride as smart as possible even if i am doing dumb stuff hehehe. oh yea, sit farther back on the seat and its even easier. I slide all the way back till i hit the back seat. its alot easier since i am 6'3" also, alot of my friends stand while learning how to wheelie because you can throw your weight for balance. One homie even gets paid to do stunt shows.

today i did the first stoplight burnout because i launched a lil too high and since it was 103 i took off my gloves and clutch slips a lil in my two fingers from sweat, popped the clutch a lil bit and got a second or two of spin before it connected. sounded tight

I usually dont wheelie in first just cause it so touchy of a gear but so i quickly learned in second now i dont have to clutch it i just stand up and pre load it at 6000 and up she goes and at about 72 mph i hit the balance point and just chill there until i feel like setting it down...the disadvantage of riding wheelies over a 1/2 mile is u double the chance of getting bustttttted
