Who knew!
I just had my first service on my 2004 CBR1000RR. To my surprise when they changed the oil they used 10W-30. I asked why not 10W-40 like my owners manual told me to use. They said that Honda made the change to use 10W-30 for all CBRs.
Not a problem to use 10W-40 or 10W-50 though.
Funny thing is I still have a weird feeling in the front end after my adjustments to the suspension. They told me it was normal But I noticed it again tonight when I was out.
My front compression settings were not set the same when I looked so I am surprised that they missed it.

10w-30 and 10w-40 have just about the same temp range for use. I think many use the 10w-50 for track use since it's getting worked a lot more.
Did the dealership monkey with the front preloads?

i have seen this before, honda set 10w30 as a baseline for all bike, mainly popular opinion says is because their new hp4s synth only comes in 10w30. i talked to my dealer about it since i get the first 5 services under the extended warranty anyway and was told that the memo honda put out also says for the 600rr and then 1000rr to still use the temp chart in the manual
their words though, take it for what its worth

I was told all 04-07s got the 10W-30 oil now. Honda provides the oil for the dealer.
Last night I still had some wiggle while riding and the only difference is it was 75 instead of 85 when I went to dealer. He lowered my tire pressures even though I told him I had just driven 20 miles to get there and my bike was sitting in the sun so Duh about higher pressures. I did set them when they were cold after all.
Tech said they checked suspension but all felt normal. No they didn't mess with any suspension settings, they rode it to check them. I did tighten up the compression and rebound 1 click to see if that will help.
They did not touch the preloads but I have them set for 1/2 inch front and 1 inch rear. Since I don't know what I am doing I am not surprised it feels funny.
Anybody have a good setting for bumpy country roads not terribly fast unless it is a straightaway and a rider that is 205? No track days yet.
Right now it is rear 1 click softer on rebound and compression. Front should be front rebound and compression are 2 clicks soft because it was really harsh on the bigger bumps. Any settings now will have to be zeroed and reset so I can be accurate. Anyone live around Rome, NY (Near Utica)that could come over and help me set the rear suspension?
All my noises were normal. The ticking noise is quieter but still there. Shifting is much nicer but I expected that considering all the junk I was seeing in the oil window.

there is no magic setting for the suspension
it is all based on rider weight
the first thing is to set the sag
or the distance travelled from the bike off the ground to the bike with rider on it
after that it is all rider feel and handling

honda does provide the oil to the dealers with teh GN4/HP4, but it is, or used to be, made and delivered thorugh a Mobil Oil dealer when i worked as a parts department back in the late 90's...so unless something has changed the HP4 wasactrually Mobil-1 Synth.....
my bottle of HP4 that i just bought said 10w40(Gold Bottle, Red Cap).......but they also had 20w50(GoldBottle, Silver Cap)..........but no 10w30......must be a really recent switch because i know the dealership i buy mine at is very popular so i dont think it was old-stock
