Default Help! Strange Vibration Ringing Noise

Hey guys. I have a ringing noise coming from a part in my exhaust (look at pic) It very annoying and Im not sure if its purpose...It obviously not correctly fastened but there is also no way to fasten it. All I can think to do is to have it welded in place.... Any ideas what this does? how it came lose? and if it will effect anything if i get it welded? Thanks.Name: IMG_1226.jpg

What year is the bike? Also is that the stock exhaust or aftermarket? First glance tells me a o2 sensor should go there and that is to cap it off but can't be for sure without more info.

yea I was thinking the same thing, that it was a cap of some sort...but i read up that the us models didnt come with o2 sensors.. Its a 2008 cbr600rr. It does have a aftermarket muffler...so it is a possibility they did other work on the exhaust. i just bought the bike recently...Im its 3rd owner so I dont know exactly what the 1st owner had done. Think its safe to weld then? If you see the little gap bewtween the cap and pipe is where the rattle is...its literally vibrates about 1/32 of a inch. very high pitch.

I looked at some stock headers....and found this....I see the cap in this picture. any ideas?

I have an 07 so we have the same bike. When I bought mine it was 100% stock. Since then I have done very minor modifications. One of the mods I did do was a Leo Vince aftermarket slip on but I left the header the same and I just looked and my header has the exact same cap that yours has but mine is not loose. This tells me that nothing goes there and it comes like that from the factory. Now I don't know if it is pressed on or welded on. I will try to look at it closer in the daylight and let you know.

Hey Curtiss...
I was searching the net for this problem and landed here. I have a 2007 CBR 600RR with the same issue. Noise occured after a good high revving cold night time drive... heh..heh.. It was a solid 2 hour run. The next morning, I heard it and I thought that I may have loosened something during the run. I narrowed the noise down to that same cap on the exhaust pipe. It seemed to have come loose some how and started rattling. It never made that noise before and I think maybe some kind of rapid temp change from hot to cold or cold to hot may have worked it loose. Planning on taking a hammer and pliers to it to make it stop, but before I do... I was wondering if you came up with a solution since you had posted this thread up back in 2012.
