Default Front Fork/Steering Alignment

Hey, this is my first post. I have a 05 600rr. I just replaced the bottom triple tree becasue it was bent. everything else has been checked and is straight. I've been searching this forum and online about aligning the top triple tree to the bottom. I saw that if i put my front stand on, losen all the bolts and compress the front tire and then tighten all the bolts it will work?? But this was on an -03 rr and they have inverted forks. is that the correct way to do it? Thanks

I twisted my trees on a low sidea couple of weeks ago. to get everything squared back up. I put the tubes in the bottom tree, then mounted the tire and axle, and torqued it all down. then just slid the top bridge on. if the axle is torqued, and the bottom tree is in, the forks have to be straight.

I loosened up everything....and i don't know the point on the fork to measure from to make sure once everythng is the right height....that when i put the top tree on it will be the correct length...like the two lines on the top of the fork to tell me that its the right height.

yeah, I dont know of a way either, so basically you will have to go back againand set the tube height.

I just slid them far enough up to make sure I had a good inch or 2 above where the top bridge(tree) would normally be. then torqued it all down like I said, axle, pinch bolts, triple tree pinch bolts, top bridge nut, and everything was good.

then I went back and loosened up the fork pinch bolts and slid the tubes back to the measurement specified in the manual.

It's really not that difficult. Just insert each fork one at a time and get the appropriate amount of fork tube showing out of the top triple. Once you have them in the top triple evenly tighten the the bolt. Then tighten the lower triple, then clip ons, then install the front wheel, etc and you should be good.

not exactly sure how the top tree on an RR works, but on the F4i, there is no alignment marks or notches. So there is nothing in the top to ensure that its square. thats why
you have to torque everything on the front wheel axle and bottom bridge. An RR may be different, but if you tightened it all up without the axle and everything set, you could be a degree or two off of perfectly square.
