IMO, each year of a bike's existence the price value goes down $1,000 a year.
Scratches, needs new tires, rusty chain, and anything else you have to fix?
That's another grand off right there.

You will always notice that a running bike, in clean condition always settles down to around $1200-$1700 minimum.
Anything running well is worth a $1,000.
But, with new models, every day wear and tear and depreciation for about the first 5 years the bike dies $1,000.
If a newer model comes out and is significantly better that something 4 years old, 5 years old or 10, then you hit a point at
5 years where it's just out of date. No amount of PCIII's, exhaust changes, stickers, whatever changes that.
That's not Kelly Blue Book...that's not NADA (as in NADA gonna accept that as any authority.)...that's BMG book.
Those people who write those books base their estimates on dealer wants and buyer's dumb butt average buy.
Look in Cycle trader for the best deal going for a bike. I've seen 2005 GSXR's for $3500 mint in there.
CBR's, ZX's..well ZX's are hardly ever for sale...and 2003-2007 R-6's for the 07 being at $7,990.
Look around and if you find a deal...make it a deal.

But yea I seen the same as you described, 05's from $3k to $6k depending on the area n how quick someone wanted to get rid of the bike.

RE: Dropped at the dealer!
shop around and be sure to let them know that you can take your business else where. never be commited to one dealership and be willing to travel for a better price (reasonable distance ofcourse.... unless the deal is that killer!)
also one mistake i see people do alot when they are out shopping is show too much interest in a certian bike. then the sales person will hone in on that and pressure it. (ie, because you showed you really want it they will keep hassling you to check your credit, find a co signer if need be com'on get someone to do it for you , well cant you drop more money ... etc)

RE: Dropped at the dealer!
At my dealer where I bought my 06, they're now selling the 07's for $8200 OTD. The 08's are going for $9200. The dealership in town is selling the 08's for $11500 "on sale" even. (the same dealership where my 06 got the insurance estimate done). So it varies, but you can EASILY get the 07's for right around the $8200 mark.......just depends on the dealer you go to.
