Default deciding the bike

hello. i'm new to this community. i was wondering if you could give me reasons as to why you would pick one of these over the other, besides reasons such as color, or 'honda/yamaha sucks'. i want to gather information from other people. i really like them both, and from what i understand the honda has a horrible low/mid-range, which makes me lean towards the yamaha. i'm not particularly looking to bring this to a track (often) where the cbr600rr might shine with it's high-range power. i'm also leaning towards the yamaha because i'm 5'7" 120lbs and the r6 weighs less than the cbr. but anyway, was just curious what other people thought between the models, whether it's these two specific bikes or not. thanks. looking forward to hearing from you.

Id get the R6. The '03-'04 RR is heavy and is just not as good of a bike in all areas of performance and comfort. The only thing that it has on the R6 is the style, I think the blue RR's are very sweet looking. Plus the R6 has less mileage and is cheaper. Don't let anyone tell you that "because its a honda, it has better build quality and will last forever so therefore is worth more money." I am definately not impressed with my honda (f4i) in terms of build quality. That is a very good deal for an '04 R6, unless you are very into style, the R6 is a better bike. Go to motorcycleusa.com and look at the bike tests section for 2004 supersport shootout. They break the test down into track and street portions. It has a very good review on all the supersports for 2004 and votes the r6 the winner.

Just pick what bike you like to look at and buy it, because the minor differences are something you (and most riders) will never even notice for normal commuting or reckless street riding. Go to the dealer and sit on the machines and go from there, because it doesn't really matter why other people bought their bikes. I seriously did buy mine because it was yellow, well, also because it's a Honda and their known to be "bullet proof." Honestly the R6 is only 4 lbs lighter and the seat height is 1 inch taller...so go sit on them and let us know which one you choose!

Fretless nails this answer. All of the comparisons you read in magazines or whatever are from pros on a track and track style riding. Do you really care that the other bike has 3 or 4 more HP's or feels smoother when cornering at 150+. For the most part, we buy our bikes simply because of style, looks and color. That's what most novice riders will notice here. The R6 does sound like a better deal, less mileage for less money. If you like the R6, go for that one.

What Fretless said. Also, the Yamaha is considered more comfortable for the street. However, I put a pair of heli-bars on my 600RR and it is very comfy street bike now. I wanted things like undertail exhaust and a proper fuel guage plus the RR is a sweet looking bike, so that's my reasoning.

I agree with the others who say you won't feel the difference between a few HP and lbs. I would consider looks and features like the type of display. I'm sure what ever you decide you will very much enjoy the bike. If for some reason you don't then sell it next year and try something different. Depending on where you live consider going to a few bike nights and talk to people who ride these bikes.

you definatly need to go sit on a coulpe of bikes before you choose one. for me personaly, the honda just felt better when i sat on it compared to the yamaha and the gsxr. what i like about the honda compared to the other makes (besides the sick a$$ looks) is how egronomical the controls are. the display has everything you need and its very easy to see quickly, all of the controls are right were you need them. basically its just a real nice setup on the honda. performance wise, all the bikes are so close that unless your pro-racer, your probably not going to notice a difference. and in regards to the low/mid range power, i may be wrong but i think the honda has a more linear power curve than the yamaha, no big dips or bumps throught the power band, makes it more livable and useable. good luck with your purchase
