Default Cleaning the chain...

tomorrow afternoon. I plan on using like a 50/50 simple green n water solution (the standard simple green cleaner) and a soft bristle brush. Rinse it thoroughly after cleaning, then wipe dry.

I usually use chain wax, but this time I'm going to try switching to Dupont Chain Saver. I've heard really great things about it and wanna see how it goes.

Walmart.com: DuPont Teflon Chain Saver, 11 oz: Automotive

Does this sound like a good chain cleaning/lube method?

Best chain cleaning products are kerosene and the tirox 360 brush. Clean chain in minutes.

The dupont wax is good stuff.

kerosene and a brush or rag is the most common method, works a charm.

So yesterday it took me about 1.5hr with simple green and a soft bristled brush to clean my chain. Previous owner hadn't done it in a while obviously. Then I used the Dupont lubricant, which went on nice, but if you get it on the side of your sprocket it leaves a yellowish haze residue you have to wipe off. Overall it looks 100x better than it did when I bought the bike. Also noticed the rear sprocket was a Vortex.

Where can you pick up just bottled kerosene? Sorry if thats a dumb question but it's not something I typically keep my eye open for. I want to try that next time.

Nice job on your chain.

You can get kerosene at HD or Lowe's, or the like.

To clean my chain, I use a GrungeBrush & wd40, followed by a wipe-down w/a red shop cloth soaked in wd40, let sit, followed by quality chain lube - such as PJ1, etc.

I do however use simple-green to clean up my wheels & swingarm when finished. ;-)

Noob question alert!!!!!

I thought WD40 was bad for the chain links/o-rings. Just curious. I had my first service done recently, so it's not an issue any time soon for me. However, I went ahead and bought some of the DuPont products because I had heard they were good stuff.

Just trying to learn as much as possible! Thanks for any advice!
