So I was performing my valve inspection which came back perfect. Put on a new valve head cover gasket and was tightening down the valve cover bolts and broke the stator side bolt. What can/do I do now?

Take the cover back off and anything else to gain access to the hole.

Since it broke going in, we know its not frozen. So that's good, provided you didn't crossthread it and it was going in easy.

First, try a pick and see if you can work it out by turning it out. If its loose in there, it should come out easily. If it doesn't move, the next step is to drill the center and put a removal tool in it to back it out. If that fails, you may want to take off the head and either work at it more or take it to a machine shop and have them get it out.

Be careful to NOT DAMAGE THE HEAD.....

 

My next question would be is there a sequence to tightening down the bolts? I was tightening them in a sequence but maybe I had it wrong? Aswell as when I'm done tightening them should the head of the cylinder where the threads go eventually be flush with the top of the threads?

 

That flange should bottom out on the head. The rubber seal is what holds the tension on the cover. I'm sure there is a sequence, but as a general rule, they should be all be walked down evenly a little at a time.

Quick question Demon, should I have used hondabond 4 or hondabond ht on the cylinder head cover gasket? I know it's suppose to go on the semi-circle and corners.

 

You are correct. Only in the corners and semis. The rest should be dry and clean.

 

So the Hondabond 4 or Hondabond high temp silicone?

Also when I performed the valve clearance check I didn't remove the throttle body but now I have to so I can remove the cylinder head cover to get at the broke bolt, but it's a pain in the butt and won't budge. How can I take it off easier?

 

Yes. Put a dab in the corners, that's it.

If you didn't take them off before and you got the cover off, why won't it come off now?

 

I didn't actually have to take the cylinder head cover out of the frame, was able to lift up enough to slip in the feeler gauges. Kinda like a peek-a-boo.
