The owners manual says 86 octane is suffice for 2005 and 2006 CBR 600 RR. Putting in anything more than regular is a waste of money unless your engine is pinging. I have an old 84 Prelude that I have to bump up to plus during the really hot summer months (July and August) because of pinging, but this is the only time I have to purchase anything more than regular. I agree there are some cars that run premium exclusively, but those engines are high compression and require the higher octane to prevent predetination which is harmful to internal engine components.
Save yourself some cash and run regular.

When the throttle is turned in the closed direction and engine braking is applied, the fuel mixture becomes lean. An ignited air/fuel mixture is discharged into the exhaust pipe resulting in afterburn. This is the popping sound you hear. This afterburn is especially noticeable when a high flow filter and a aftermarket exhaust (with little baffle\little back pressure) are installed.

Used to have a 2003 RR. I run 91 premium at first but then tried 87 premium and it run about the same. Honda said a minimum of 87 I think. I heard there is no advantage in putting 91 unless you have to. I also run 87 on my current bike, 2002 F4I and it runs fine. Cost me about 10 bucks to fill up on regular and 11 bucks for premium. I know its a dollar difference but I ride my bike a lot! fill up about twice a week and that one dollar can make a difference!
