Default What's your Octane?

Well, not really your octane, but at what fuel rating do you fill your CBR1000F with?

I've been told to stay away from ethanol additives, and finally found a gas station that sells Premium Unleaded 92 Octane.

What do you use?

95, leaded.......................
not that I think that running unleaded affects the performance at all.

First, FWIW, I don't believe that leaded is available in the US- outlawed probably 20 years ago for pollution reasons. Second, the owners' manual (at least for US bikes) says "We recommend that you use unleaded fuel because it produces fewer engine and spark plug deposits and extends the life of exhaust system components". Third, the manual also says that 86 or higher pump octane is ok.

I wasn't aware LEADED gasoline was available ANYWHERE!
I use regular in mine. Is there any noticeable difference when you use a higher octane (more expensive) gasoline, especially in older vehicles?

We only dumped genuine leaded gas a couple of years back - (Africa's a bit slow, yaknow) this stuff's called LRP
or "Lead Replacement petrol"
Previous owner used it too and I have a stainless exhaust and change the plugs regularly so deposits aren't really a problem.
Problem with unleaded is the exhaust is always black.......

Leaded fuel is avalible in the USA, every airport has it. But unless you work at the airport, or know someone who does...good luck getting some avation fuel. You can also find 110+ octane gas at certain gas stations. Drag strips and race tracks sometimes carry it too. You can also mix your own. Jaz, Rocket brand, etc.

Running leaded gas in a motor designed for unleaded (like the 1000F) is no problem. Going the other way is where you run into trouble. Running unleaded in a leaded motor will eat up the exaust valve seats.

I run premium in my bike. It's 91 or 93 depending on which station I go to.

GIVEN THAT: The octane rating is a measure of the resistance of gasoline and other fuels to detonation (engine knocking) in spark-ignition internal combustion engines.
High-performance engines typically have higher compression ratios and are therefore more prone to detonation, so they require higher octane fuel.
A lower-performance engine will not generally perform better with high-octane fuel, since the compression ratio is fixed by the engine design.

The CBR1000F was designed with compression ratio of 10.5 to 1 and timing to suit so "enhancing the fuel" - from an ecconomy or power point of view - is a waste of money. (workshop manual pg 21-2).
[[ Obviously this will be different if you do radical mods and change the compression ratio, valve timming or ignition timming.]]

To prove part of this "theory" for myself below is my fuel comsumption for past 10,000 km. Part is using 91 RON and another part 95 RON with no difference to "power" or fuel Consumption.
Notes:
1. Using Regular Unleaded Petrol - 91 RON min (Standards = http://www.aip.com.au/pdf/fuel_%20regs.pdf)
2. Tried Premium UP - 95 RON min = made no difference to "power" or fuel Consumption. Date Range points 37 to 45 inclusive.
