Sticking throttle
#4
X2 on the grip. especially if they are aftermarket. they can slide inward after time and bind with the switch box. with the bike off, try spinning it while pulling outward on it. it will most turn/slide hard, but it should go. i actually slide mine inward occasionally on a long ride, because it kind of works nice as a cruise control.
but if thats not the problem, then i would check the cable and make sure its not pinched between the frame and the tank, or that its not partially cut or frayed somewhere. and after that, i would check to see if the throttle tube happens to be gunked up.

All good suggestions, on routing and checking throttle tube binding.
Also consider, cleaning and lubing the cables, themselves.
Start with WD-40 and hose them good with that, then use a quality cable lube.
Get a cable lube tool like this...
Motion Pro - Cable Luber
While your at it, do your clutch cable, as well.
I lube about every 500 miles or so, as regular maintenance.
You don't need to pull the cables off the bike to do this, just
loosen them from the grips.

Blimey Ern! Every 500 miles????? Very keen mate.
If I did that I'd be lubing every other day. I haven't lubed them for 50K miles and they still feel silky smooth. I really should replace them soon.... just to be on the safe side.
I like the look of that lubing tool though. Clever.
Thanks for the tip.
