Default the problems just dont stop

Ok I just want to thank in advance anyone for looking and possibly giving any info on how to get my bike up and running before the weather gets really nice out. Ok so here’s the problem now, bike still won’t start! It has to be a fuel related problem because it will fire right up and run off either. I pulled the hose off the t connector at the carburetor and turn the key on and the fuel barley trickled out, is this normal? it i pulled the plugs and there bone dry , So this is where im at and beyond frustrated now. The bike does have spark, has a brand new battery, brand new NGK spark plugs and its also getting fuel to the pump and has a brand new fuel filter. Oh and not to forget it did run last season when parked at the end of September. Well any info is greatly appreciated and with some luck she'll be running this week.

I know it's a stupid question but do you have the gas turned on at the tank?

Does your fuel pump prime? I think it's an obstruction right now...

Fuel goes to it from the tank if your petcock is at 'on' or 'reserve' but it won't flow fuel to the T at the carbs. Make sure it primes when you hit the 'run' button...

We'll go from there..

Yes, you have to look inside the tank to see if the fuel is moving a bit due to priming. Easiest way to see is to make a reserve tank and attach it to the fuel pump, then every time you turn on the keys (with the kill switch on), it will make a popping noise on the fuel and suck some in when you hit the starter button. Also on my bike, I can hear the fuel pump prime a bit when I turn on the key without hitting the ignition.

If battery is good, spark plugs are good (including the ignition coil), and fuel is priming, no dirt in the fuel lines going to the fuel pump or the carbs, then it's something else. If the bike has been sitting for a while and the carbs weren't drained for storage, then it's similar to what I'm having to deal with, jets being clogged and all.

The gas is in the on postion and when i turn the key on i can feel the fuel pump click and then stop, when this happens it just drips a little out of the t conector at the carbs. I have also opened the tank thinking maybe there was even a suction problem but nothing. I have called some dealers in the area and they have noted that all 4 carbs clogging up at the same time and not letting the bike run is very unlikely especially because the bike was ridden last season. And i mainly only run cam 2 race fuel in the bike so i know the fuel is still good. I guess im wondering if the fuel pump can make that clicking noise and still be working properly. And if so, what should I check next? Thanks for all the feed back guys this has been a great site and the people here are very knowledgable

The best thing you can do right away is bypass the fuel pump (keep the inline fuel filter while doing this, and set the petcock to off while you unplug the lines) and make sure there's a good level of fuel in the tank so that you can gavity feed it into the carbs. Start up maybe be a bit hesitant and it should run at speeds up to about 60mph.

This bypass will eliminate the pump as the problem or not.Remember to put the petcock to 'on' again when you finished bypassing the pump.

just remember just because it fires off starting fluid doesnt mean it has spark, i dunno if this includes bikes but ive been working on cars and trucks for years and starting fluid will fire off compression if enough is used.

all the other advise is great, id follow that and also pull a plug wire off and stick a screw driver in the spark plug boot and hold the screwdriver next to the frame, try to start the bike and youll see a spark if it has spark.

If the Plugs are bone dry you have a fuel issue.

The fuel pump puts out a VERY low pressure pulsing action so don't expect fuel to be squirting everywhere.

When I got mine it would run once I got it started, so long as I didn't bring it down below about 3 or 4k rpms. I pulled the carbs and cleaned them and it has run great ever since. The LOW speed jets are so incredibly small that you won't even be able to clean them with a pin. I had to pull a strand of speaker wire apart and use that - It wouldn't take much for one of those jets to be corroded up and causing your problems.

Just a thought, even though it would be odd that it ran last year, but now WON'T....

Ok, starting fluid is ether,(not either) and if it fires then it has spark. It may be weak but its still firing. I dont care how much compression you got, if you have no fire, your bike/car whatever will not fire. that aside, pull the fuel line that feeds the carbs and turn the bike on. It should prime for a few seconds. If not the hot wire the fuel pump to see if it works. If it does then most likely the fuel pump/cut relay is the culprit.

Ok so good news finally, I took the fuel line off going to the fuel pump and ran it direct to the t-Connector at the carbs turned the fuel on and she fired right up! let it run for a couple minutes and then put everything back together normally with the fuel pump doing its job , after all said and done she fired right back up and ran fine yesterday . so my guess is when I took the carbs apart to inspect them and put everything back together it didn’t have enough fuel in the system to prime it self . Now I wonder if this is a sign that the pump is on its way out if it can primp the system when dry or was it me not being patient and turning the key on and off enough to prime it? Well its up and running for now so that’s the good thing! Thanks everyone for the advice and helpful sugestions!!!!
