noob, needs help, dies at low speed when warm
Just bought my first bike... its a '99 f4. Sounds great. Had a buddy of mine check it out, he said its the ****. so I bought it. Well, I was learning to ride (please dont laugh) around the parking lot. Lots of first and second gear, turns and that kinda ****. Ran great for about 45 minutes or so. Then, as I dropped the clutch between 2nd and first, it died. I still have electricity, but it wouldnt start for about fifteen minutes or so, like it was flooded or vaporlocked.
My friend took it onto the highway once it started back up, justto see if it needed to be opened up. Ran great. Once back at his house though, it died at low speeds, same thing, dropped in the clutch and nothing... no more run. The person I bought it from, a Certified Honda Tch, had cleaned the carbs and replaced plugs.
Any Ideas?

Well, the first and easiest thing to test is voltage. Make sure that when the bike is off, on and running that you are getting around 12.5v or higher. I'm suspecting the battery is fine if you can still crank it over after it dies. Does it seem to try and start better if you have the choke on? Have you adjusted your idle up and down? After that you're probably going to be getting into fuel. Usually if you are having problems when hot it means the bike is running to rich. It's possible when the tech cleaned them he set the pilot screws wrong. A lot of us have been seeing electical issues along the same lines (when the bike is hot). I just ordered a new fuel cut relay for my bike. Still waiting for it to come in. Mine would run fine for about 20 minutes then not want to run very well after that, mainly under 2k rpms. Mine was a problem with the fuel pump not getting enough voltage at idle to actually turn it on. But start with the basics and let us know what you find.
