Welcome aboard. First off, I'd recommend you do research on your bike by reading everything you can find on it first, b/f taking things apart.
I come from the simplest-is-best school, in that modest mods can really make a bike look great w/o going overboad & looking gaudy.
Good luck.

also lowering it makes it look good also. i bet if you lower it and then like the past 2 guys said go with those mods or some of them it will look like a different bike. my boi just lowered his and put on some smoked led turn signals and a wind screen, a pipe, integreated taillight and it looked like a better bike just by doing those simple mods. affordable and its all stuff you can do at home

Detail clean the bike...you can learn alot about your bike by doing this. Gives you a chance to visually inspect every little thing, tighten loose bolts, fasteners, etc.
Then do maintenance. Change your oil, oil filter, & air filter. Flush your radiator & check all hoses. Check your fuel line...as they get older, they get much easier to crack & leak fuel...replacement is cheap & easy. Check your brake pads & replace as necessary. Flush your brake lines & fill w/ fresh brake fluid. Check your chain & sprockets, & replace as necessary. Check tires & get new if yours are fairly worn...your bike will handle much more nicely w/ new tires.
Once your maint needs are complete, address your suspension. Chances are your bike is still set the way it came from the factory, but maybe not. Check the manuals & read threads on how to adjust your suspension for your particular riding needs. Sometimes its just nice to see what dif settings will do for you as well.
Then do little go-fasters & mods. Kuroshio's list is very good. Frame-sliders are a favored option as well. Also, seat-covers or targa cowls can add to a customized look as well. Some folks like to install LEDs throughout their bikes for shows or a certain look.
Have fun w/ you "new" bike. :-)
