How to Change your clutch.
If you are going to get the OEM plates you'll need Two #5's, Five #6's, Six #7's, and Five #9's. I'd also suggest getting a couple of #11's just in case. You'll find out why later.
http://houseofmotorcycles.bikebandit...4-2000/o/m2049 Go to the clutch schematic.
You'll need to drain the oil from your bike first.

Stick them in some oil. I planned to reuse the oil when I was finished but a fly landed in it and probably a couple of other things too.

To take off the cover unscrew the bolt thats circled then disconnect the clutch cable from the lever. Proceed to turn the lever counter-clock wise toward you. That will seperate it from the lifter piece inside. Next, unplug the clutch from the wire harness. The blue arrow points toward it. Then just unscrew all the bolts around it.

Unscrew all five spring bolts then you'll beable to remove the pressure plate.

Take out the clutch. You might need to use a flat head screw driver to pry out the last few plates.

Now to put in the new one. You will put them in the deep gooves. First, put in a #5 then a #7 and then a #6. Repeat till your out of #7's and #6's and the last one will be a #5. The last one will also go in the shallow groove.

You can go ahead and put the pressure plate back on. Put in the new clutch springs and tighten them in a star pattern. You'll need a torq wrench and set it to 9ft/lbs.

If you over torq them the heads break off easly. I fount this out the hard way. TWICE. I had to drill them out. Thats why I suggested to buy a couple extra screws as they are specially made. I had to go to the hardware store and find a new screws and washers that matched the old ones.

After that is all done you can go ahead and put the cover back on. I suggest using a high temp silicon to seal the cover. I let the silicon dry for an hour before putting oil back in it.
You'll need to readjust your clutch lever free play. It might creep when your in gear when you pull the clutch lever in. That means you have too much free play.

Aonther good write up man. So far my clutch is holding up, butI sliped it bad this weekend. It was the first ride in 2 months and I went to clutch up in secound and my RPM's were to low so it just sliped.
The clutch cover is sealed on there. You will probably need to pry it off a little at a time with a flat head screw driver. My cover was sealed tight on there like a virgin.
do you really need to buy so many #6,#7 ?and do i really have to use oem or can i use aftermarket one and if i can where can i buy them at??also after i intall the #5 i have install #6than #7 and repeat with just 6,7 or with the #5 also it would go 5,6,7,6,7,6,7,6,7,6,7,5 where does the sixth #7 go ?
Yes you need that many. You can buy an anftermarket one. Google Barnet Clutch Kits CBR F4. They should come with springs. The order goes 5,7,6,7,6,7,6,7,6,7,6,7,5.
