Fuel pump and choke operation
When the ignition is turned on should there be a fuel pump sound? My old 125 made a whine for a few seconds, but the F4 does not.
It takes quite a bit of starting after it's been stood. The choke is very stiff and the lever doesn't seem to move fully so I am not sure whether to start with that or the fuel pump, which was replaced before I bought the bike (although it might not be a new one).

Well I would start with cleaning the choke cable, it is the easiest part to clean. Then make sure nothing is obstructing to operation of it. Then you can bypass the fuel pump, if your still having starting issues then you can rule our the FP. Hope it helps.
Thanks dude (just realised I haven't replied to this). I think the fuel pump must be working as it rides fine once it's started.
There's just something about the carbs/choke that stopping it starting well from cold. It's going into a good mechanic in a couple of weeks so we'll see if he can fix it up.
