I've got a cbr 600 (engine only, I don't have the bike) in a formula sae car that some students designed and I'm not sure what year it is, or if it's an F4 or F4i. I need some help identifying it. I've been told it's an F4i, but i've also been told it's a 1999, but did they make the F4i in 1999? or did that model come later?

Basically I was wondering if anyone could tell me if there are any identifying marks on the engine that would tell me what year/model it is.

They didn't make the F4i in 1999 - only the F4.

F4i's are fuel injected if that helps at all

Based on this, I'm pretty sure it's an F4, not an F4i.

 

if its carbureted and it is for sure and f4 series then it is '99-'00, Fuel injection would be '01-'06. They are all f4's but only the '01-'06 are f4i's.

 

thanks, it has some student-designed aftermarket fuel injection on it, though i suspect it was originally carbureted, but since the original carbs or fuel inj. is no longer there, i cant really be sure

 

have you pulled the valve cover off? if so the f4i has a cam pulse sensor on the exhaust cam opposite the gear. The f4 does not.
