Hi, I'm new to the forum, and pretty new to biking in general. I spent the first 18 months managing not to fall off my FX, and now I'm hankering for "making it my own"

So far:

Pair of Dunlop Sportsmarts
K and N air filter
Osram night racer headlamp
HH brake pads.
Carbon fibre front mud guard (replace cracked original)

I haven't actually ridden it since making these changes, as the weather here is terrible.

Can anyone recommend anything else which should show noticeable performance improvements for not too much cash?

With the new air filter, do I need to make any other adjustments to get the best from it?

What's the consensus on fuel additives / octane boosters?

Your best (cheap) mods that will help with performance would be replace all the fluids, including the fork oil, coolant, maybe getting your rear shock serviced, running some seafoam or techron through the fuel system to clean everything. You could clean all the electrical connections and pack them with di-electric grease and replace the R/R with a finned one like the F4i's. A common mod is to re-gear the sprockets with -1 /+2. Other than that there isnt a ton of "performance mods" that I can think of. As far as octane boosters, The F4's compression ratio isnt high enough to warrant them. You wont see any real benefits, If you want better gas and you subscribe to the theories of different qualities of gas coming from different companies than buy from your favorite one.
