what did i get myself into! "new" 95 cbr600
okay so throttle issue is diagnosed - bent handle bar was the cause, ordered a new one that looks straight used from ebay, cost about $45 US.
NEXT problem lol! I took my gas tank to my friends machine shop and sandblasted the inside, let me just say WOW, it took the old gunk off in a matter of seconds! i was really impressed with how well it worked! BUT of course this old girl can't let me get away with anything easy, a part inside of the tank got displaced/broken in the process. At this point i'm not sure what piece it is. it appears to be a stem of some sort, i can't imagine there are too many parts in there so but i'm leaning towards it being part of the fuel reserve assembly? i'm trying to find a diagram of the inside of the tank but havent found one yet. did i destroy my tank, is it fixable, or what?

without any pictures and just guessing, i would think its the supply for the normal "fuel on". i wouldnt think you destroyed it from being functional, just the fact that when you ride with it in the "on" position, its going to be exactly the same as riding on "reserve". the tube for the on position is a raised inlet so when your riding, once the fuel gets to that level or lower, the bike will start to sputter, letting you know to switch to reserve, and find a gas station. you should be able to ride it still, but your not going to know your fuel levels...
like i said im just trowing a wild guess out there..
is it number 7 or 8 that broke?

Hey guys,
I know I'm late to the party but just so curious as to whether you're out riding yet or not. I read the whole thread in the last hour or so, periodically getting some work done @ work. I recently cleaned the carbs on my 88 cbr 600 but it didn't look as complicated as yours.
Hope to see a video of you getting to ride man.
All the best!

Bike looks clean for $500. Just take you time and remember to take pictures when disassembling. This way you won't forget how to put it back together. Flush the radiator, clean carb, change the oil, Sparks, ditto. Do what you can youself, then have a local mechanic do what you can't. CBR are great bikes...be patience.
Hey thanks guys, I'm waiting on just two parts, then ill be putting it back together and taking it to the shop for new tires and a once over by a mechanic, should be ready by next week. While I've been waiting for parts I've repaired and painted all the fairings, everything's coming together finally!
still at it guys, heres a sneak peak though! very happy with how everythings coming along except for the speed, its taking forever waiting for parts and getting ANY time to actually work on it, just a hectic life schedule right now!

took it on the cell phone, i'll post some real pictures hopefully soon of everything completed, i believe everything mechanically is done, just the cosmetics left and then taking it to get new tires and checked out!
whadya think??

Its done with duricolor by me, I put quite a bit of effort into it, Im happy with the result it was what I was aiming for, wont pass close scrutiny but looks great from a foot or two. About 80 percent of the fairings were damaged and I did the best I could to make it look nicer, I plan on getting some new ones before next spring. Thanks for looking more to come!
Hey guys quick question, bike was running great rode it through the neighborhood a little bit was waiting on tires started it up everyday after work for about a week just to keep gas running through it and the other day I went to start it up and it wouldn't stay on. It would turn over but wont idle, basically sputters and dies out, if I rev it it will stay on until I let off the gas. I lifted the tank to see if a line was pinched but didn't see anything like that, any thoughts or things to look for? I also put it on a charger to make sure the bike was getting a good charge but haven't looked into anything else yet. I'm stumped right now how does a bike stop working overnight??
