By running the tranny without the chain and sprocket on installed, you would be able to hear the knock or not. It is just a process of elimination kind of thing. If you've got a worn spot in the chain, I would replace the chain and sprockets. Especially if it's slapping against the swing arm. That will cause some nasty marks on the swing arm.

yea I was thinking the same thing too man. Plus if I dont have to hear that noise I will feel a lot better too.

Who knows the place where the chains are the cheapest?
