Default Tranny or Clutch problem

Posted this in General Tech section as well, but since I own an F3...

fyi - am a noob with bikes...have a 96 f3..so here goes
please tell me its just the clutch...

anyway...am on the freeway doing freeway speeds this past sat eve...
all of a sudden i notice when i twist the throttle...my engine responds (rpms) but im going nowhere...
matter of fact im actually slowing down..
i pull over to the side of the freeway....bike is still running, but wont move..
i even let out the clutch in 1st gear...the bike is still freakin running. i turn off/on the engine...starts smoothly
but still wont go anywhere...engine just revs!!!
From what I've been reading, this could be a clutch (fingers crossed) or a tranny (dear god, no!!) problem...

just want to get some input from you guys....if therez any additional info you need...ask & i will try to provide...

thanks in advance

If it'll move in all but one gear, it's the transmission, if it's like that in all the gears, it's the clutch. Although if it just suddenly goes out, then it sounds like somehow the clutch isn't fully engaging and is somehow burning up while you're riding. I think normally when a clutch goes out, it's something that's more gradual, not suddenly instantaneous like what you're describing.

yea...its like that thru all the gears...
sorry if i left it out...but dont think it happened alluva sudden. It might also have to do with the fact that im always revvin the **** outta the bike from every stop sign/light with the clutch pulled in...i've heard thats one way to prematurely burn it out...
in anycase...im starting to lean toward it being the clutch the more i think about it...

Unless you recently changed your oil and the viscosity on your oil is totally wrong? (Just a thought, I'm pretty sure I'm wrong lol)

Join the club, tore all the plastics off to work on the carbs, did the carbs 3 times, put the bike back together, put maybe 70 miles on the bike, then my clutch cable snapped. And the last ride I too had just filled up my tank lol.
