Default Strange oil leak...*PICS*

1995 CBR F3, 28300 on the clock. After a hard day of riding yesterday I get this...and this has been happening for a while. Some days its dry and nothing happens, and some days I get strange little leaks! wtf! Yesterday was a nice 250 mile day of hard riding so that probably has something to do with it...

It only happens on one side and the oil becomes a fine mist that gathers up on the side of the fairing. After yesterdays riding there are only two drops of oil, nothing big, but anybody have any ideas??

Don't panic, I think (from looking at the pics anyway) That what you have dripping on the floor & building up around that particular spot, is a chain lube. As it collects under & around that area, it gets thin from water, road crud & heat. Last rego inspection I had, guy try to tell me I had a similar oil leak, cleaned it up & never had the problem again.

I'm not so sure I'm agreeing with you on this one. Based on the photos, this is on the right side, not the drive side. There is oil all over the oil pan. I'd like to see some photo's up near the oil filter and cooler too. With the wind blowing oil can get spread every which way, so finding the source can be a challenge. I'm not saying it can't be the chain lube, but I'm skeptical.

Your right Ido, jumped in without looking at the pics properly. if its a mist then its oil under pressure, like Ido said, its a matter of tracing it back. My suggestion would be to clean it up, give you a better idea of where its coming from. Maybe the seal/gasket of the oil pan & faulty relief valve.
Not enough to cause the oil pressure light to come on, but a pin ***** can become a flood.

I would check the oil pressure sensor and the ignition timing cover. My bike used to leak oil right near the sensor until I tightened it up and put a new gasket on the ignition timing cover.

Thanks guys, my oil change is due in 600 miles so ill take my fairings off in 2 or 3 days once its time for my oil change @ 29000. I have a feeling its going to be one of the gaskets, its definitely not the chain lube since I use a very thick lube and its opposite of the drive side. Ill keep you posted after I clean up the area.

Alright, just to be on the safe side I changed my oil but its still dropping. 2-3 drops every other day, the oil pan has some oil on it but it may just be from the clutch or the pulsar cover. I am going to replace all three gaskets at my next oil change, and I'll consider the price of gaskets as a 30k service :P. Should i be aware of lots of oil spilling everywhere when I change these parts? Never changed gaskets on a motorcycle before.

always a chance the oil filter isnt on secure, check it in the front. any leak while riding would smear all over the bottom of your engine like that.

Check around the filter and oil cooler connections. That's the most likely place to get that type of pray on the oil pan.
