Default starts, dies, wont start again

Hi. New here and been reading a lot with the search function, but im sort of stumped with my bike now.

New owner to a 95 f3 and im loving it. I left for a few weeks on vacation and now the bike wont run. Before i left there were no problems at all.

But now I started it up, drove for a bit, then it bogged down and died. Then it wouldnt start up again. It would crank and crank. Walked it back home to try and find the problem. Could not get it started at all. the battery started dieing so i took it out and charged it for a few hours. Put it back in and it started with the choke just fine. ran for a bit then gave it gas and it just fell on its face. Wouldnt start up again. So few hours later I try it again. Will not start. Put the charger on at 2amps with the battery connected to the bike. Starts right up. So thinking its something along the lines with the electrical system. So to play around I turn it off and take the charger off. Cranks put wont start. Put it back on and it starts right away. So i leave it on to let it run for a bit. few minutes of running with the charger and it falls on its face again and dies. Now it wont even start with the charger.

Calling it a night, so looking for any pointers. I found "how to diagnose the charging system" on cbrworld.net gonna try that tomorrow.

Anyways, if you have any other pointers or ran into something like this, please let me know. Thanks!

Default RE: starts, dies, wont start again

Hi,
Sounds like I had the same problem with my 96 F3. I would ride it and it would just die. So I think your rectifier is bad. Using a voltage meter set for AC current with bike running check for power at the negitive and postive terminals on your battery. You should get around 12 volts or a little higher. Turn on the high beams and it should drop down a little bit. Now if you do not have 12 volts then you could have a bad rectifier, bad battery, or your stator is bad. Start with the small stuff first with checking voltage then go from there. 1 check all wires looking for loose wires or and shorts or bad grounds
2.check battery by having it load tested
3 check to make sure bike is charging
If this does help then I suggest taking it to the shop.
