Default Speedometer Issues

Since I've had my bike I noticed I was getting passed all the time. When I'm in my car I always do 4-6 mph over the speed limit. When cursing down the road in my car at 4-6 over I always pass people and every now and then someone passes me. The last couple weeks I knew something was up. I'm getting passed left and right on my bike even by blue hairs.

Today on my way to the hospital to see my sister new born baby boy I passed one of those speed radars on the side of the road. When I passed it, it said I was going 55mph and my speedometer was showing 60mph. So I turned around and went by the radar 4 more times.

Test | Speedometer | Radar speed
----------------------------------
1st 60mph 55mph
2nd 40mph 37mph
3rd 65mph 60mph
4th 70mph 63mph

I wanted to run a test at 80mph on my speedometer but with my luck thats when a cop would've showed up.

But now I see why on the free way everyone and there bother was passing me cause I wasn't even doing the speed limit So does anyone know how to fix this?

all bikes are like that...they all read fast... usually about 10-15%, or more once you start changing sprockets and what not. they make a thing called speedo healer, thats all i know of.

most people just put up with it tho. my F3 used to read really high. if i was reading 68, i knew i was going 55.

Ya... mine does this too.
I am hoping it will help me delay myself from a ticket.

Boo, those cost a 100$+

Would a bicycle speedometer work, something like a Sigma BC800? I can grab one of those for 20$ at a local bicycle shop.

A GPS will work too (If you have one laying around).

i wouldn't think a bicycle speedometer would be good at all. while im sure they're accurate to an "okay" degree anywhere from 0-30 mph... i wouldn't trust that speedo to be accurate at all when i'm going 80... no way it'd be more accurate than the F3 one.

and as for the cost of the speedo healer.... thats why most of us just train ourselves to adjust the speed in our brains. grab a friend and tell him to go 45, see what yours reads, then tell him to go 55, see what yours reads, etc. hell, i had a friend that took a knife and actually gouged out marks on his speedo (one was at 52 mph on the speedo which stood for 45mph in reality, one was at 65 on the speedo which stook for 55 in reality, and so on).

i just put a new sprocket set on my 2000 f4, 15/45. Does anyone else know how "off" the speedometer is with this setup?

I assume running the stock 16/45 will make it accurate though, right?
