Default Speedo is dead - replacement recommendations?

So it appears my speedo is done for. The odometer and tach still work fine, so I'm suspecting this is not an issue with sensors, however the speedo just slowly climbs once the bike is running. When I was warming the bike up after flushing the coolant I got the speedo up to 60mph or so with the biking idling.

Anyway, I searched for a replacement online and found an OEM assembly for 210.. which is a bit of cash. Does anyone have any suggestions on less expensive alternatives? Plastics are bad on this bike (runs nice though) so I could go street fighter, but hiding all the cables and hoses that the cowl covers now would be tricky I think.

All input welcome, heck you can even flame if you want
