Default question: draining the carbs...

Hey all;

I was storing my bike for the winter (it was my first summer riding), and i was told to drain my carbs. If I read correctly...

Im supposed to fill the tank with gas; add fuel stabilizer and run the engine for about 10 minutes...now, do I drain the carbs before this procedure or after? Thanks in advance...

after...the idea being once you stop the bike there is still fuel in the float bowls. This fuel can gum up over the winter plugging the idle jets int he carbs. Some will recommend only running the bike with the fuel tap off until it dies but I don't like this method as it will still leave some gas in some of the float bowls. None of the 4 carns will be 100% as efficient as the others.

Oh yeah turn the fuel off before draining....or you will be there for a long while.

If you want to drain the carbs, there is a flat head brass screw at the bottom of the float bowl. Screw it out until you see fuel draining out. Do not completely remove the screw because it will be extremely difficult to getthescrewback in without removing the carbs. Make sure you have flat head that has long reach because the inner two carbs will be hard to reach.
