Default battery problems

I have a 98 cbr600, and have encountered major difficulties releasing the battery from the confines of it's plastic cage...Take the three nuts out the top of the cover, and also two from the side of the bike which looked like they might be holding the battery box in place...however, try as i might, i cannot pull the battery out of it's box...there just doesn't seem room. any ideas***

Disconnect the negative and positive terminals, then take a screw driver and pop it back than out. you shouldnt need to disconnect the entire battery box.

Ok people, maybe it was just the darkness blinding me last night! I have the battery out and am now about to charge it with a 12v charger...thanks for the help...The only other questions I have regarding this battery problem are these;
Is there a special way of cleaning the connections to the battery...should I spray them with WD40...any more ideas on easy to attempt maintenance measures for the battery and it's connections...
cheers

A couple things...first off use a low amperage charger! Not a regular car charger unless it has a low amp setting. Cahrging it too fast will ruin the battery. A tender or bike specific charger is best but if you have a car charger make sure it has a 2 amp setting (still too high in my oppinion). Second, as for cleaning the terminals...it depends on what you are cleaning...if there is build up of corosion best to use baking soda to neutralize it. Other than that just a wire brush should be fine. I supposed WD40 wouldn't hurt but not sure why it would be needed.
