Left coil goes to 2-3, right goes to 1-4. Seated on the bike for reference.

Sorry to resurrect a dead thread, this didn't seem worth creating a whole new one. I keep seeing that 2,3 -- 1,4 thing when people talk about coils. My confusion comes from the service manual, which shows in the wiring diagram a configuration of 1,2 -- 3,4. Fortunately I don't have a coil issue atm, so this is purely academic interest.

I agree.. Manual is a little grey..

Ern, just to clarify.. The plug wire on the left side of Coil #1 goes to cylinder #2, the plug wire on the right side of coil #1 goes to 3? Same difference for Coil #2.. Thanks for the reply!!

It's unfortunate, but in Section 16 of the Honda Shop manual, the small wiring diagram is incorrect in it's labeling of the Spark Plugs as they relate the the coils.
The main Wiring Diagram in Section 19 is correct. I've included the section here.

Here's my source, from the Clymers manual, besides my bike, itself...

Oh, okay. Thanks for cleaning that up guys. I was getting very confused. I'll make a note in that section that the diagram is wrong.

That's pretty much how I figured it.. I need a match and some fuel!! Verified it last night and now I have intermittent spark. Took the plug wires off the #1 coil and with a screw driver inserted it's only sparking once every 5 or 6+ seconds.. Going to check the wiring tonight.. It has a Dyna 2000 on it, anyone ever have problems with these things?

Well, I verified the wiring.. It seems to be right.. I started it up, it will run with the choke on only (Known Carb issue) then when I took the choke off it dies and then there's no spark. Turned key on and off, no love.. Pulled the plug apart at the ICM and reconnected it and it had spark.. Anyone familiar with these Dyna 2000s? When it's running the LED is basically on, when it turns over it blinks so that seems normal per the install instructions.
