newB regulator problems
ok guy so I just got my first bike. 97 f3. it runs without the regulator hooked up but kills the battery in no time. When I went to plug up the regulator i noticed one of the yellow wires was melted off the side of the plug and not idk if i have a bad regulator or a problem somewere else. it will not run with the regulator plugged it. it will pop the fuse immediately. I hooked up a voltage meter an the only wire that had anything was the red wire on the plug. Any info would be great. thanks
U can see in the picture the one wire missing off the plug. Can i get another plug to wire in???

I recently had my r/r burn up as well & kick the main fuse. After doing enough searches I found out that it is one the problematic parts on a cbr. I replaced my r/r with one from a 04 gsxr and what I did was removed the plastic plugs and used the male & female ends on the wires. And secured them with electrical tape and heat shrink. Runs like a champ.
search & you will find lots of info.

The part I used was from an 05 600/750cc, all the r/r's i've seen from gxsr have wires running from them. If I'm not mistaken you want to find an r/r with one wire bundle with the 5 wires. the one I got had black wires one with red stripe and one with a white stripe & I used this to wire it up.
there are 5 total wires.
Honda __________ Suzuki
3 white( alternator) 3 black
1 Red ( positive)1 black/red
1 green( negative)1 black/white
the 3 alti wires all come from the same place and all share continuity, therefore they can all be mismatched (it doesn't matter the order of them). if you are confused, simply check for continuity between them. in most cases they are the 3 top wires horozontally, and the 2 (usually larger ones) below are the red/black + and the green/black neg (which is also ground I believe)
. _ _ _ . 3 top are the alti wires (yellow on my bike, white on others)
. _ () _ . left is postitve (usually red, and the right is green, or negative)
