Default Ignition Coil

I recently traded on my my dirt bikes(2002 RM250) for a 95 CBR600F3. The previous owner told me the 1st coil for cylinders 1 and 4 is bad, and that when the bike reaches operating temp, the engine will cut out. True to his word, everytime I ride it, once the bike reaches operating temp, it dies. once it cools a little, it will fire right back up. Otherwise the bike runs beautifully. Before I go and drop about a hundred bucks on a new coil(missing the dirtbike already...), does anyone have any input on the issue. Having been a Motocross mechanic for years, and knowing enough about car electronic ignitions, this makes some sense. I know its not carburation, becuase the problem isnt constant and the bike runs fine from an idle all the way to redline, but I'm still sketchy on whether its the coil or not. It would seem to me that if it was the coil, it would aslo be constant. I bought this bike knowing I'd have to put money in it, but the way I see it, my RM was worth about $1500, so I dont mind putting a few bucks into this bike. I just hope I didnt underestimate how much.

what he says kinda makes sense but also in another sense i have never heard of that to cause a problem like that without there being something else going on at the same time.... but you might just have to trade it out and see, or if you know anyone else that has one borrow there coil and see if thats the problem....

FUN FUN FUN!!!! Everyone has fun with electrical problems sometime in there life. Yes the coil could be bad or it could be a couple other things. The problem with coils is that you can check them with an ohm meter but you have to check them once the engine dies. If you check them cold when the bike runs it will check out fine. But they could still be bad. I would ride the bike until it stops and check them before it cools down and runs again. Another thing it could be is your pick up coil or stator whatever its called. Same thing with this item. It can check out okay by the meter but still be bad once it heats up. I know 2 people with bikes that had this problem and one snowmobile. Definitly electrical.... you will have to troubleshoot the rest. Good luck
