Hi, i too am a newby to the forum and am looking for tips and advice as we always are on the learning curve. However i do know some things about these machines. The CBR 600 was a revolution at the time and for tune ups, give it a service as all have mentioned and if you want to "tune it", dont.

Take the clip on handle bars off and put them under the top yokes, this helps with straight line drag and "racing"comfort on the bike, replace the rear shock and jack it up a little so it drops a little quicker. Also if your going to do lots of track days, depending on how many left hand turns your regular track has you may want to reverse the gearing so you pull up to change down and vice versa otherwise when you've tipped it into a corner you wont be able to get your foot underneath the peg when banked over to accelerate away. These tips were from my ex superbike rider instructor. This will then be able to keep up with a lot of the bigger boys without touching the engine. However, the bike will always outride you so do what i am, leaving it how honda intended.
