Gas Cap removal??

Default Gas Cap removal??

I just got a gas tank for my project F3. the tank I got still has the original gas cap and needsthe key to open it. how can I get the cap off without a key and not do too much damage to the tank? if anyone has done this before, please share. thanks in advance!

Screwdriver! Or you can dremel out the lock, that's what I did after my lock crapped out on me.

cant you just un bolt it without openin the cap ?

Unfortunately you can't just do that. The cap hinge is attached to the rim that is bolted to the tank, but the lock mechanism hooks under the lip inside the tank. This is what a thief did to my wifes tank when he stole it (the bike that is). Looks like he just used a hammer and a screwdriver to break the lock. After that, is was easy to turn the mechanism with a flat blade screwdriver to open it.

have you still got the old lock from your old tank? If so I would break it open with a hammer and chisel, just be carefull not to get any debris in the tank

I just drilled mine out then used a flat head to turn the lock.
