Default Fork adjuster stuck?

I have a set of forks that don't want to adjust. Since the adjuster seems to me made of brass or some similarly soft metal, I can't just crank down on it with a screw driver. Anyone have a trick for how to free these up? If I pull the fork apart, is there a way to rotate it with something more substantial inside? Right now, I've been hitting it with pb blaster and giving it a shot every day or so.

Pete

Have you tried to rotate it the other way...? It might be in all the way. You are right thats its brass, and you can't go nuts on it, but they only rotate a few turns, clicking as they go, and they will always stick out some.

I guess that wasn't worded well. I meant the rebound adjustment on the top of the forks. I think it's rebound, anyway. It's not the preload, it's the smaller brass **** that should turn with a coin or a screwdriver.

so what are you saying???? that you turn preload a few times and then its stops turning??? You do realize that there is a limit to adjustability, right???
