You're absolutely right, it can be done. But that's a hardcore-type mod, takes a whole range of skills and the return vs resetting a trip-odometer is pretty dismal. imo

Would a sending unit from like a boat or something work? I have no idea how any of this stuff works so i probably should just make a new thread

another gauge would not need to be added since f4i gauges do that. but i am wondering the same as far as why you couldn't mod an f4i tank and wire it in. doesn't an f4i tank have a sending unit.?

It can't be that hard to do you would think. You'd have to cut a whole in tank to install it most likely. Reweld grind, polish, and paint. To me it wouldn't be worth the trouble. I'm cool with my reserve switch.

I meant do the mod to get an f4i tank on the f3 (as far as i know the sending unit is already in there), not do a sending unit mod to the tank.

The problem I could see with this is accuracy... In order for the gauge to work properly (assuming the f4i cluster had a fuel gauge) the poistion of the whole within the tank would have to be precise.

Interesting question presented by Will.Bass though...

What does anybody know about the f4i tank and a sending unit?

Let's say the tank DOES have a sending unit... Now what? From what I hear (I don't much about the f4i and I have not done the cluster swap (yet...)) the f4i does not have a fuel gauge. Do we purchase a gauge from maybe a boat? Hmmmm....

ok, so first of all, apologies to the OP for the hijacked thread..!

my assumption, based off of pictures like this

of a fully functional gas gauge on the f4i gauges has proved to be wrong after finding this thread..
https://cbrforum.com/forum/f4i-main-...s-gauge-61321/

I guess I should have noticed to the little "RES" above the meter!

So i guess another gauge would be needed to have "full" functioning level readings..Damn!

It does have a fuel gauge. But if you don't hook it up the display won't show it. You'd never know unless you had the knowledge of it.
