Make sure you have fuel coming from the petcock, and fuel filter. I would also take a look at the fuel pump make sure that its working properly. Giving a squirt of carb or break clean will help get it to start.

Have you rechecked all vacuum lines, that the carbs are seated in tight?

Are the float bowls filling up? My fuel pump went out at 60,000 miles.

Take a plug out and crank the bike to verify that you have a good spark, then spray ether through the carbs and get it fired up!

Same thing used to happen to me.

I would go through everything again and see if anything is loose.
Spray some carb cleaner down the air inlets on each carb, theres about 4 little holes that get dirty. Just pop the airbox off and they are right there.
- Also, try closing the choke and starting it.
- Check the petcock, and also pull off the fuel pump and see how your contacts are.

Plug wires on the wrong plugs could cause backfiring.

are you talking about the wires on the coils, or the actual plug wires? cause the plug wires are just red..
