Stupid question but when I bought my bike it was missing the whole tail section. I just bought a one piece off ebay and have seen 2 different under tail sections. Do they come from the factory with under tail sections?

No, they do not have an undertail per se, they come stock with a tray that runs under the rear portion of the seat to the back making the Fender.

Many people trim this piece down (Like the one in the ebay add I guess) and some even buy that part that chowda is talkin about. His part cleans up the tail real nice!

I actually have an aftermarket fiberglass undertail that I bought and never put on.. unpainted, untouched. I'm going a different route and would be willing to let it go for $90 + shipping. Got it for ~$125 new. PM me if you want pics or want to talk further..

 

Do it. I have one on my bike and it looks really nice. Way better than stock.

 

i purchased the undertail in the ebay auction for my 98 and I can't for the life of me figure out how to install it. What parts do I need to remove to install this thing? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

 

scratch that, I figured it out. You need to cut quite a bit of the stock undertail to get the ebay thing to fit.
