Default Dad needs advice to help Son 96 F3

Hello to All!!,
Brand new here and trying to help my son with his 86 CBR600 F3.
Very Little $$ & can't afford shop time & no Manual.

The bike was running fine and then would not start. A friend came by and jumped a wire from the batt to the fuel pump yesterday and she starts and runs. So it appears to be the fuel pump relay - from what I've read here!!

But we have no idea where this relay is or the correct wire colors?
Could someone please show & tell!!

Also read here that the fuel pump relay can be swapped for the head light relay,,,,, Is this true????

Or is there an aftermarket relay that would work??

Many Thanks up front for your help.

Regards,
Jag007

Hello Jag and welcome, There is under the stickies, in this section of forum a free PDF Download of the Manual for the CBR F3 models which could help you alot I bet, (I am not sure if it is the Haynes Manual)

I would also suggest in looking on amazon or Ebay to see if t hey have a Haynes Manual you could buy roughly 35$ but worth it, to me it is the best book, it even takes you through a step by step engine rebuild, among some things, it would show you how to replace and or fix the relay.

I would try to help more but i haven't had to deal with the relay yet :/

Hope this Helps

It's on the right side of the motorcycle, under the tail fairing, right next to the r/r, have you checked your wiring?? Loose connections or anything....... That happened to my f3, I could not sort out the problem, and i started following wires and there were a couple fried under the battery tray

Hello,
Thank you for the tip on the manual - Downloaded!! - Yeah!!

I've read here that the fuel cuttoff relay can be exchanged with the headlight relay.

Can anyone confirm this please??

Thanks,

Default Two Honda Relay's walk into a Bar!

Hello All,

First off I wanted to say thanks for the forum members and the manual I was able to download.

Then with that manual I was able to help my son trouble shoot his starting problem to the "fuel cut-off relay"

While searching here earlier for possible causes of the starting problem, I read a post ( cant remember where right now),,,,,,.

But someone said that you could exchange the fuel cut-off relay for the headlight relay???

Then I was thinking, I bet Honda used similar relays on various models??

So Im posting to ask about the fuel cut-off relay - and - if that relay was used on other models?

And if in fact the headlight relay can be swapped for the fuel relay??

Also does anyone know of any aftermarket relays that will work??

Thank you for your help,

Regards,
jag007

Ok sorry for the multiple postings -- It appeared that I had worded the question wrong in the 1st post.

Now the bike is 1 1996 CBR600 F3. Now who can answer my question about the relays??
Can the headlight relay be used in place of the fuel cut-off relay??
Is there an aftermarket relay that works?
Are those relays used on other Honda Models?

Thank you very much,
jag007

i wouldnt swap it out for the headlight relay, your safer with just ordering a new relay, you can get one off of bikebandit.com

Default Screw the relay

My race bike doesnt have a relay the fuel pump is stand alone hard wired to the battery with a switch up front this allows me to prime the carbs before starting the bike as well as running it seperate allows me to cut fuel off in case of malfunction.

Not 100% on what the fuel relay does as the pump operates at a max psi so works perfectly normal without it.

If someone can either correct me but wire the fuel pump seperate stopping from further issues
