cbr 600 f3 1998 180/55/17 tyre
anyone who has a tyre like that on its f3?
what are the advantages or disadvatages? someone told me that wuth the 180 tyre it will not be so stable on the curves.
A buddy of mine who is a member here, CCCBR, has that tire on his bike. It was on there when he bought it. I don't think he's put many miles on it since he hasn't got it licensed but maybe he'll see this and let ya know. If not I'll ask him. It does make the bike sit noticeably higher though.
I would also like to know but my main concern is if you'll have to remove the hugger or do any modifications to the rear of the bike to make it fit or is there enough clearance because around here the 180s are cheaper then the 160s
I have a 180 on my F3. It had the hugger removed when I bought it, so I don't know if it will fit with a 180. Everything else clears, but the chain is real close to the tire. No harm, though.
imo i been reading alot about tires and a 180 just takes away so much from an f3 .they are maybe 10 to 15 bucksmore than a 160 depending on the retailer . try this site great for tires cheapest on the net ive found so far . http://www.ridenowonline.com/default.aspx
DING DING DING Let the opinions fly. I like the 180 more because im a more show then go kinda guy. People will bicker that it sucks for track, or stay OEM. For everyday driving a 180 will do you just great.
I personally ran the 160 on mine because I'm not for the show. With the 180 your profile is bigger not allowing the bike to turn in as fast, the 160 although smaller will allow the bike to be more nibble when your have to take corners and overall better stability of the bike. I found with my own experience was a 160 rear and a 120/70 front tire gave me the best handling. Just my opinion but like i said I would rather sacrifice looks for better handling when it comes to the rear tire.
Just got back from a race meeting at Snetterton, a guy in the newcomers 600 series was running an F3 with 180 rear. He had no choice as the control tire for the series is only available in 180 and 190 sizes. It looked like it fitted ok with out deforming the profile any noticeable amount. He was beating a couple of early R6's in the battle not to be last and they weren't a massive amount behind the mid pack for the first few laps. The bike was completely stock apart from the race fairing and a can. In the corners he and the R6's were pretty good but that track has two very long straights and they just don't have the power to stick with modern tackle. I've got a used tire from the series to try on mine as the back spins up really easy for a 600 on the 160 and I can't get new 170's anymore. I've tried both 160 & 170 on track and road I will try the 180 also, if I remember I'll submit my opinion on the results.
i can say ive ridden and f3 on all 3 sizes, with a 160 the bike is real nimble and turns in pretty quick, a 170 the turn in is a bit slower, but feels much more planted in the corners. on a 180, turn in is much slower, havent done any real cornering on it, still tons of sand on the roads(not to mention its got shinko tires). But i definitely prefered the 170, which is unfortunate since most manufacturers dont offer a 170.
IMO, 160 is great for the street, if youre gonna be doing alot of track days or racing, a 5.5 inch rim swap is worth looking at.
Also, my opinion is relative, all 3 sizes were on 3 different tires from different brands.
