Default Carb Question

The F3 Carb set has 2 lines that run radiator coolant to the carbs.

My question is what purpose does this do for the bike.

And do you all remove this feature.

Thanks SIRR1

Mine are removed and my bike runs great. However, so you can see both sides of the story here is a post on the subject: http://cbrworld.net/forums/thread/289183.aspx

As you will see in the thread, some are arguing that those lines are to prevent icing due to the pressure drop that occurs in carburetors due to the ram air effect. However, I have a problem with this, as you will see where I posted (username: crazy4honda). The factory service manual states that the thermo valve closes (i.e., doesn't circulate coolant through the carbs) once the coolant temp reaches 170 degrees. That tells me that it is used simply as an EPA aid to reduce emissions and assist in warm up. But remember, any mod that alters the factory configuration is for closed course, competition use only

Less weight, less clutter, and provided your bike is in a good state of tune, it will warm up perfectly fine without them.

Default RE: Carb Question

Thanks guys!

I knew someone would here would know there purpose.

The reason I brought up this question is that after I bought this F3 the carbs were gummed up from sitting.

When cleaningthe carbs I noticed the coolant lines were blocked by corrosion, I was able to clean up the corrision from the coolant
on the aluminum fittings and all is working as designed so that is good.

But the use of coolant on the carb set had me scratching my head as to why!

Makes sence, and I am leaving them in place because our riding group rides well into winter as long as the roads are snow and salt free.

And I would hate to have the bike shut down on a cold day due to a icing situation in the carbs.

Thanks again!
