Default broken pinch bolt

Guys, I did front fork oil change and seal. I overtorqued the pinch bolt and broke one of them on the LEFT fork. I just rode the freeway to school here to post this thread. The broken bolt stuck in the hole. Any ideas to get it out, and I just checked bike bandit , they don't have that for sell. Any is it dangerous to ride with one broken pinch bolt? Everything else is OK! Thank you.

Go to an auto store and get a bolt remover. Theres several styles and kits. Some you drill a hole in the middle and then pound what looks to be just the shaft of a phillips screwdriver in it but its hexagon shaped so you just turn it out with a socket or wrench. Either way its not a big problem and the solution is easy. Id do it ASAP though so the bolt doesnt decide to start freezing up in the threads.

If you have to use the Easy Out style which requires drilling, be careful not to break the drill bit or Easy Out in the hole. The broken parts could b e very difficult if not impossible to remove, and you could wind up replacing the entire assembly. If you have any doubt, take it to a shop.

Drill it out.

Those bolts only need like 16lbs + some Loctite.

Worst case...a used triple clamp for an f3 is worth like $10....I've sold three of them on eBay....and the highest one went $10.50...and that was with bearings/seals and the upper clamp as well.

I would keep your riding to a minmal until you fix this. Without both the upper and lower clamps pinching, the forks can twist, and is obviously not carrying the load as it was designed too.

Good luck,
JB
