Default bogging at higher rpm?

hey i have been having problems with my 98 f3.. it will run fine while sitting there but when you try to ride it and wind it out it starts bogging, i put a piece of tape over the intake half way and it will run better you can go through the gears but at greater rpms it starts bogging and will try 2 cut off... it seems like its running out of gas or something.? could it be the jets or air/fuel set screw?? any help would be great thanks..

well it has a k&n filter on it that needs to be cleaned.. i just took the carbs off, i am going to clean them and make sure none of the jets are clogged, and the fuel pump is a aftermarket one that is working fine, (i bought the bike as a project and it has been messed with a time or two...) but im going to clean the carbs and check ever thing out and see how it goes from there..

I think that because it seems to run better when the air is restricted that means that your running too lean I believe.

Are you using a fuel pump?

How about your battery? Know a low battery can have troubles with high RPMs.
